Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Eliminate Sagging Eyelids & Rejuvenate Your Appearance
Blepharoplasty, which is commonly known as eyelid surgery, can rejuvenate puffy, sagging or tired-looking eyes by removing excess fat, skin, and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. It may be performed for cosmetic reasons or to improve sight by lifting droopy eyelids out of the patient’s field of vision. Blepharoplasty can be combined with BOTOX® treatments to raise the eyebrows or reduce the appearance of wrinkles, crow’s feet or dark circles under the eyes.
This procedure is usually in one of our outpatient surgery centers. Incisions are made along the eyelids in inconspicuous places (in the creases of the upper lids, and just below the lashes on the lower lids). Dr. Kay will remove excess tissue through these incisions and then stitches them closed with fine sutures. In the case that no skin needs to be removed, Dr. Kay will likely perform a transconjunctival blepharoplasty, where the incision is made inside the lower eyelid and there are no visible scars. Stitches are removed after three or four days, and patients can resume wearing contact lenses after a few weeks.

More info:
Blepharoplasty involves making precise incisions along the eyelid’s natural folds (upper eyelids) or just beneath the lower lash line or inside the eyelid (lower lids). Dr. Kay removes or repositions excess skin, muscle, and fat to tighten and contour the area. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the case, and typically takes 1 to 2 hours.
Over 11 million women and men have used BOTOX Cosmetic with great results. There’s real, immediately noticeable results with absolutely no surgery or recovery time! BOTOX is generally used in the brow area to soften wrinkles, but Dr. Kay also successfully uses BOTOX to soften crow’s feet on the outside of the eyes, as well as wrinkles in the upper lip area.
It’s no wonder BOTOX is the perfect cosmetic treatment. With a few quick and painless injections, the BOTOX medication paralyzes the tiny muscles in your face that cause wrinkles. BOTOX is incredibly safe, and results last up to 4 months. If you’re interested in learning more, please contact our office and set up a time to meet and discuss your options with Dr. Kay.

Frequently Asked Questions
Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin, fat, and muscle from the upper and/or lower eyelids to rejuvenate the eye area and improve vision or appearance.
Ideal candidates include individuals with droopy upper eyelids, puffy under-eye bags, or sagging skin that impairs vision or creates a tired, aged look. You should be in good health and have realistic expectations.
Both. Upper blepharoplasty lifts sagging eyelids, while lower blepharoplasty targets bags and puffiness under the eyes. These can be done separately or together, depending on your goals.
Most patients experience swelling and bruising for 1–2 weeks. Stitches are typically removed within 5–7 days, and patients usually return to daily activities within 10–14 days.
Scars are minimal and well-concealed within the natural creases of the eyelids. With proper care, they fade significantly over time and become virtually undetectable.
