Otoplasty, or “ear pinning”, is a procedure to correct or reshape the physical structure of the ear. It is generally performed to set prominent ears closer to the head or to reduce the size of large ears. This procedure is generally done in an outpatient surgery center, and our patients usually report a mild pain in the ears for a short time after.

During otoplasty, Dr. Kay makes a small incision behind the ear to access the cartilage. The cartilage is then reshaped, folded, or repositioned closer to the head using sutures. The procedure takes about 1–2 hours and is typically done under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia.
