All About the Hot Girl Walk

Fitness challenges, workout routines, and exercising- everyday we find ourselves being reminded by society how going to the gym can be a beneficial asset to our lives. It wasn’t until the pandemic hit when going to the gym no longer became an option, and we had to find more creative ways of getting our workout in. Take the “Hot Girl Walk” for example. It became viral thanks to TikTok fitness influencer Mia Lind who reportedly began walking as part of her daily routine during the pandemic. As simple as it sounds, many claim the activity to be a great way to get offline and mentally decompress.
What is “The Hot Girl Walk”?
To put it straightforwardly, the hot girl walk is a daily 4 mile walk that’s done outside while listening to an inspirational podcast or motivating song playlist. Lind explained in her tiktoks that this was her way of rebranding a simple walking exercise to separate any stigmas attached to walking. Many people actually don’t believe walking is a legitimate form of exercise but we’re here to tell you otherwise. Side note: Walking is not just for elderly people. The walk also works to promote not just physical health but mental health as well. The main goal is to encourage yourself into patterns of positive thinking.
How do I start?
You first set a goal to walk 2-4 miles daily. You can then choose which inspiring podcast/playlist you’d like to listen to. During your walk, Lind says that there are only 3 things you’re allowed to think about:
- What you’re grateful for
- Your goals and how you’re going to achieve them
- How hot you are
Avoid thinking about past drama or conflicting situations. If you begin to think negative thoughts, Lind recommends turning up the volume to drown them out with music or whatever you’re listening to. Most importantly, when the walk ends, you have to continue to carry that positive energy throughout the rest of the day.
Benefits
Physical benefits of this exercise include:
- Stronger bones & promotion of Vitamin D production
- Healthy maintenance of blood pressure
- Reduced risk for heart disease
- Increased mobility
As mentioned previously, the hot girl walk goes beyond physical training. It’s also about improving your mental health and self-esteem. Mental benefits of this exercise include:
- Reduced stress or anxiety
- Reduced negativity or unhealthy thought patterns
- Improved self-image/confidence boost
Tips & Tricks
Thanks to tiktok, there are many videos swirling around with users showing off their outfits or feeling themselves during their walk. Because of this, the constant focus of being a “hot girl” might make it feel like this walk is only exclusive to some. Remember that the goal is less about looking hot, and more about feeling it. Here are some tips to keep you focused:
- Ask yourself. What does feeling hot mean to you? For some, it could mean being strong, healthy, or learning the ability to overcome situations.
- Be flexible. You don’t need to walk the entire four miles. Take inspiration from the trend and create a routine that works for you.
- Practice positive thinking. If going outside is not your thing, you can still practice improving your mental health. Practice saying one thing positive to yourself even if it’s not something small.
- Try it with friends. You don’t have to be alone. Find friends who encourage you to be your best self and go out on walks with them.
