Pregnancy can be a verystressful time for many women because the body goes through many changes that you may not be prepared for. However, there is no need to worry because I will share all my tips and tricks to help you manage skin problems that may arise. Pregnancy can exacerbate skin conditions, such as hyperpigmentation, stretch marks, varicose veins, and acne. With proper treatment, prevention, and products you can achieve that beautiful pregnancy glow!
Say No To Hyperpigmentation & Melasma
There are a variety of skin conditions that can arise from pregnancy like hyperpigmentation. Hyperpigmentation occurs because the body is producing mo re melanin than usual. One specific form of hyperpigmentation is melasma, a condition that affects over 5 million Americans. Melasma is caused by hormonal changes in the body, which is why it commonly occurs during pregnancy. Melasma is commonly treated with hydroquinone and skin bleaching agents. You can also use alternative products that aren't too harsh on the skin, such as my Brighten and Tighten Vitamin C Serum and Glycolic Cream Cleanser. Adding a moisturizing cream, like my Night Quench product, to your skincare routine can also help with hyperpigmentation because it nourishes, repairs, and replenishes the skin.
Preventative Practices for Stretch Marks
Stretch Marks are extremely common during pregnancy. Stretch marks usually occur on the thighs, arms, hips, abdomen, and breast. Emollient creams are a great way to prevent stretch marks because it softens and moisturizes the skin. Sesame oil is another one of my favorite products because it soaks well into the skin and gives the skin a beautiful glow. Using a water-based lotion and sealing it with an oil based lubricant can offer the best results to treat stretch marks. Remember, prevention is key so it is important to implement this pre-pregnancy, during pregnancy, and after pregnancy.
How To Reduce Appearance Of Varicose Veins
During pregnancy pressure on the uterus can block blood flow to the legs. Elevating your legs is one of the easiest ways to help reduce the appearance of varicose veins. Stacking pillows under your legs while you sleep or putting your legs up against the wall are easy ways to increase blood flow to your legs. Compression stockings are a must-have because they prevent swelling and also help increase blood flow.
Guide to Pre-treating Acne
Due to hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy you may experience bursts of excess oil on your skin. I recommend avoiding benzoyl peroxide based face washes and over-the-counter products, and instead use safe effective products like my glycolic cream cleanser, kojic acid, or you can resort to a low-grade chemical peel. Using creams with antioxidants is also essential for your skin health, my Day Dream cream rebuilds skin from beneath and protects the skin barrier from damage. Utilizing skincare professionals is a great way to find treatments that are safe and work for you.Pregnancy is an important time to take care of yourself from the inside-out. It is important to maintain and treat skin conditions throughout your pregnancy so they don’t get worse overtime.
